In our every day life we are constantly under the impression that we need to act a certain way, based on our gender. Males are constantly told to be tough and suck up their problems and females are told to let out their feelings, and that its okay to get upset. Studies show that women DO handle situations very differently from men, such a stress, anger, and/or anxiety, however this could be because of stereotypes. Gender stereotypes are shown to have a direct correlation to the mental and physical health of men and women. Women who are overly expressive of their feelings have a high chance of anxiety and depression, whereas men who suppress their emotion have a high chance for indulging in risky behavior such as drug and alcohol use and they also have a high risk of heightened blood pressure.
